Specialty Teams

After probation period other ways to serve at LAFD can be sought and some teams are incentive-based which pays extra money per hour for maintaining additional training hours and duties. These duties are in addition to being a Firefighter II/EMT. Uniformed members are allowed to carry (2) incentives and may serve on other teams as a non-paid status. Other activities the department participates in are SCBA team, Bike team, combat challenge(s).

EMS - Emergency Medical Services

Every firefighter at LAFD carries an Emergency Medical Services - EMT Certification and 80+% of what we do like any fire agency is related to a medical incident. LAFD may also sponsor members to obtain their Paramedic license. Often our EMTs/Paramedics transport patients from our hospital to Santa Fe (45 miles) and Albuquerque (90 miles) away.

EMT-ADVANCED INCENTIVE PAY: $1.50 / hour

EMT-PARAMEDIC INCENTIVE PAY: $3.75 / hour

Honor Guard

The LAFD Honor Guard Team is made up of approximately six-ten uniformed members who volunteer their time to represent the department for requests in times of bereavement, ceremony, special events.

Fire Inspector - Investigator

LAFD maintains and trains its own Fire Investigations and Inspections Team of 13 uniformed members to perform and support the work of the LAFD Fire Marshal's Office.
FIRE INSPECTOR-INVESTIGATOR INCENTIVE PAY: $1.50 / hour

HAZMAT

LAFD maintains a minimum of (7) Hazmat Technicians on each shift to provide an immediate response to LANL, County, and the region. Often for LANL incidents it is a joint response with the LANL Hazmat Team.

HAZMAT TECH INCENTIVE PAY: $1.50 / hour

Technical Rescue

Technical Rescue Team (TRT) covers a wide range of incidents such as high and low angle rope rescues, confined space, structural collapse and extrication. Each shift has a minimum of (7) TRT technicians on-duty.

TRT INCENTIVE PAY: $1.50 / hour

Wildland

The Wildland Team consists of a interested individuals that seeks training beyond the basics received in the Academy. (i.e. Engine Boss). This team is also available and red-card qualified to deploy to larger incidents in the New Mexico, and other states such as California as a task force as requested.
